In Africa almost half of residents live in extreme poverty. They are exposed to starvation and suffering. This issue touches prominently the youngest ones. Often their parents cannot afford proper education or staples. Due to “Have a Heart Adoption” programme we are able to help children in need.
This programme is dedicated to the youngest children in the primary schools or those who have not started their education yet. The monthly fee is €13. Your donation covers school fees up to the graduation as well as aftercare. We also provide the children with the nutritious food supporting their healthy growth. The Maitri launched the scheme in 1996 in cooperation with the Congregation of Pallottine Priests and Sisters, in response to the consequences of genocide in Rwanda. So far, the programme has been implemented in 8 countries.
This 6-year programme is aimed at children and youth attending secondary schools. The monthly fee is €17. Your donation covers school fees up to the graduation and any other related expenses. The Maitri launched this scheme in 1994 as a response to the tragic situation of people living in Rwanda, Congo and Burundi after the genocide and the wars.
The aim of this programme is to provide life-skills education for adolescents with no formal qualifications that would enable them to deal effectively with the challenges of everyday life. The monthly fee is €15. We provide the support for 2 or 3 years, depending on the scope of the school training programme. The young people learn carpentry, sewing, embroidery and cooking. At the end of the course, they are given the tools necessary to continue the work.
This programme is focused on ensuring that physically and mentally disabled children have access to rehabilitation and schools and their living conditions are improved. We provide the support till the school graduation or the age of 21. The monthly fee is €26. Your donation covers expenses of rehabilitation, purchase of prostheses and boarding school fees. The children with significant disabilities are taught how to cope with the challenges of everyday life.
The goal of this programme is to provide an education to the children with sight loss and prepare them to cope with everyday life. The monthly fee is €26. Your donation covers boarding school fees and any other related expenses. The Maitri launched the programme in 2013 in cooperation with the missionary centre of Polish Franciscan Sisters who run a school for the visually impaired kids in Kibeho, in Rwanda.
The aim of this 3-6 years programme is to enable the participants of Have a Heart Adoption – Secondary School programme to continue their education at the university. The annual student costs are around €400-€1000, depending on the country, the level of education and the field of study. The contribution may reach €85 per month if the adoptive parent decides to pay for a student accommodation and food in addition to the school fees. The Maitri has been running the students support programme in Congo and Cameroon since 2010.
This programme was initiated in 2009 by Jan Ozga, the Bishop of Doume-Abong Mbang Diocese in Cameroon. The participants are young secondary school graduates who have a vocation to the priesthood. The annual cost of the Higher Theological Seminary in Bertoua is around €1000, approximately €85 a month. The education at the seminary lasts 9 years after which the candidates are consecrated and ordained to the priesthood.
